A Pedagogy of Questioning (APOQ).
Providing a practical pedagogy of questioning for K-12 teachers.
Why Questioning?
Questioning is the key to higher order thinking and increasing student engagement. The average teacher asks 70,000 questions per year. Teachers need a better understanding of how to plan and ask rigorous, scaffolded sequences of questions that engage all students in the conversation.
“I cannot do your thinking-work for you and make you an independent learner.”
— Dr. Lee Hannel, FOUNDER (1941-2011)

The Workshop
The APOQ workshop is a 1/2 day onsite training that gives K12 teachers practical strategies to engage all students and plan and ask questions that scaffold and develop strong cognitive skills. It is based on the book, "A Pedagogy of Questioning" by G. Ivan Hannel, Esq.
Our History
The APOQ workshop has been given since 1995 when it was called "Highly Effective Questioning." APOQ was developed by psychologists Drs. Lee & Maria Hannel. The APOQ workshop has been given in all 50 states and internationally. G. Ivan Hannel, Esq. continues the work of his parents in spreading a coherent pedagogy of questioning for all K-12 teachers.
